Walter Van Beirendonck (WLT)



Walter Van Beirondonck was born on 4th February 1947 , he is a Belgian Fashion designer.

He attended the Royal Arts Academy in Antwerp graduating in 1980 . He is one of the Antwerp Six, a group of Avant Garde Fashion designers who graduated from the Royal Arts Academy in Antwerp from 1980-1981. The group includes Anne Demeulemeester, Dries Van Noten,Dirk van Saene, Dirk Bikkembergs, and Marina Yee.

Walter Van Beirondonck produces eyecatching, statement collections

In 1983 Walter Van Beirondonck began his own collections and continuously does so. His collections are known for being graphic, with phallic symbols and tribal influences. He uses a mix of fabrics such as wool, silk, latex and cotton. His collections cancome across as fun and slightly childish, but on closer inspection you can find cultural symbols, mixed with influences from nature and Literature.

 

 

SPRING SUMMER 2011

This collection saw Walter use child like motifs, on powder blue gingham print with words such as Hope appliqued across the garments and flags. There is an element of optimistic innocence in this collection but with an underlying political statemnent about unity and culture.

Walter Van Beirondonck produces collections that are unique and eyecatching. Each collection is different and gives a real insight into the themes and his own aesthetic.
