The Convenience store exterior is of the shops previous purpose a key cutters. The front windows were large with the key cutting services written on in white and crossed off in red.The windows were large enough for you to see inside most of the store. on the other side a green and white bench was placed standing out against the pavement.
I rang the bell and was greeted by the stores owner who was very friendly, on entering i noticed the flooring was a grey/beige smooth concrete, the point of sale was near the door. There was very subtle indoor lighting as the the windows allowed enough daylight in to brighten the space. There are 4 rails of clothing where the hangers were of white wood and attached to silver ropes from the ceiling, the walls were white with chip wood boards lent against them in some places, some had graffiti on them, and a piece of merchandise.
The clothing on offer was a focused eclectic mix of well made quality garments with such labels as Gareth Pugh, Todd lynn ,Maria Francesca Pepe,Heidi Klein and Heikki Salonen. A piece that really caught my eye was a black wool Todd Lynn coat with beautiful tailoring and finishing. At £1115 I would usually think that no coat is worth that much but looking at the seams the lining ,collars ,pockets and zip I could see that a lot of work and care had gone into making this coat and that it would last a very long time so it would be an investment piece.
The shop keeper was laid back and friendly and made me feel very welcome, he explained his reasoning for opening a shop in a very built up residential area saying that he liked the fact that the shop could have these select designers in the middle of nowhere which I feel adds to the overall concept of the store, an underground hub of real focused and creative energy taking from its surroundings and giving back at the same time.It didn't clash with its tower block surroundings but adds an element of surprise as you don't expect it to be there. There was also shoes, accessories and jewellery on offer, a large gold necklace made up of faces lay on a pasting table and on the tables wood were scribbles and doodles of black marker . Also in the store is the store owner Andrew ibi's own designs such as blue and white doodle jeans with blue marker coloured sections and black markered sentences. Another interesting piece was a pair of heavily patch worked/embroidered jeans by heikki Salonen for £719.
The changing rooms are located at the back right of the store they have large full length mirrors on the wall and soft red carpet, they also have spiky red black and silver lampshade lights above. Around the edges of the store are magazines like I.D placed around the floor are shoes like converse pumps. This is by far my favourite store, its a unique strong concept store
with a focused selection of items I would recommend that anyone who is looking for a unique clothing and an inspiring environment goes here, i left with a completely new vision on shopping for real fashion .
